what does #3 pure essential oil mean?
I want to buy more ylang-ylang essential oil. The description in the catalog says “ylang-ylang essential oil” and the next line under it says “#3 pure”
What does that mean? I cant seem to find an answer on the internet.

2 possibilities -
1. this is a 3% solution – ie 3% of ylang ylang diluted in a carrier or vegetable oil (usually jojoba). This is a strategy sometimes used by essential oil companies to make expensive oils seems cheaper – sometimes it’s just a rip-off!

2. Ylang Ylang essential oil is a distilled oil and the distillation process is done in stages producing 4 grades of ylang ylang. They are referred to as “extra” “1st grade”"2nd grade”"3rd grade”, with ylang ylang extra being the best quality. (This process does not apply to other essential oils). There is also ylang ylang “complete” which should be mixture of the grades but sometimes only the lower grades. 3rd grade, if that’s what you have, is the lower grade and isn’t therapeutic quality. It’s more often used for things like fragrancing detergents and I wouldn’t buy it. This is where it pays to have a supplier you know and trust! I would ask the company what they mean. If they are honest they should be prepared to tell you.
